The Tree of Life

This is an scene depiction of an ancient Turkic fable called the Tree of Life. In this story, the gigantic tree connects heaven and hell. On top of its branches lives a sacred bird called Samruk. One day, when she leaves her nest to find food, the serpent from the underworld comes up and tries to eat her baby chicks. That day a man who comes across the tree saves the chicks by killing the serpent before Samruk arrives. The legend is meant to symbolize how humans find themselves between good and evil.
